CLX 4000 Series

Scale Out Incrementally and Cost Effectively

Clustrix Clustered Database Systems (CDS) are designed to meet the unique needs of today’s large-scale Web applications. Besides providing the powerful functionality, reliability, and availability that all OLTP applications require, the Clustrix solution allows you to start small and expand slowly—or quickly—to match the unpredictable workloads and stringent service level agreements of your Internet applications.

A Clustrix Clustered Database System consists of three or more nodes. Each node in the cluster is delivered as a complete and easily deployed CLX 4000 Series appliance. (The CLX 4010 appliance is the first product in the CLX 4000 Series). As your users grow—and your capacity and performance requirements expand—you simply add another CLX 4000 Series node. You can add hundreds of nodes and your Clustrix cluster still appears to applications as a single database—although the data is intelligently spread across the nodes.

Linearly Scalable, High Performance, High Availability

In the past, database architects were faced with choosing between SQL or NoSQL database management systems. Clustrix offers a vastly superior option. The Clustrix database solution provides the best of both worlds: the full relational, ACID-compliant functionality of SQL and the high performance, massive scalability of NoSQL key-value stores. Scaling the database is as easy as adding one or more CLX appliances to a rack, connecting the ports, and assigning IP addresses. To ensure high availability, the CLX cluster provides automated load balancing, failover, recovery, and self-healing.

Easy to Deploy, Expand, and Manage

CLX 4010 appliances deploy in a transparent and non-disruptive manner into a MySQL environment. No changes are required to your database architecture, schemas, or applications—even if your database is partitioned. You can choose to start by setting up your CLX 4000 appliances as a read slave to one or more MySQL masters or as a master to one or more MySQL slaves. Or you can decide to take full advantage of the power of the Clustrix solution and replace all your MySQL servers with CLX appliances, giving you a massively scalable, high-performance, highly available database cluster—managed as a single database.

CLX 4010 Hardware Description

A Clustrix Clustered Database System requires three or more CLX 4010 appliances and an interconnect switch. The CLX 4010 has eight 2.5-inch storage slots on the front panel. Storage slots 1-7 are used for data storage and must be configured with a Clustrix verified and formatted SATA SSD Module. Storage slot 8 is used for data logs and must be configured with a Clustrix verified and formatted SATA HDD Module. The local console, network interface, cluster interconnect, and power ports are accessed through the rear panel.

Each CLX 4010 appliance contains:

  • Two Quad-Core processors (8 CPU cores)
  • 32GB memory
  • Seven 160GB solid-state drives (SSD)
  • Dual 20Gbps Infiniband back-end interconnects
  • Dual 1Gbps Ethernet
  • Battery-backed NVRAM card
