Interview Process

We review tons of resumes! Okay, maybe not tons, but thousands!!  We value your time for checking us out and submitting your resume, so don't think it did not go unnoticed.

Here's the simple process we have that helps us getting through them all:

  • We review all incoming resumes and pick the ones that best fit our open positions.
  • Next, we schedule a brief phone screen with folks we think would be a good match.
  • After the phone screen, we invite candidates for an on-site interview.
  • We make a decision within 48 hours, and often sooner.

During the phone screen for engineering positions, we like to ask a simple coding question. We use a collaborative document sharing tool to make the task easier (e.g. Type With Me). The solution is typically a few lines of code and takes no more than 5 minutes.

The on-site interview is approximately a 3-4 hour process. We usually have 3 engineers interview candidates. Each engineer has his own interview style, but we generally give each candidate an opprotunity to interview us about Clustrix, discuss the candidate's past experience, and ask a 15-20 minute whiteboard coding question. Your answer doesn't have to be perfect; we're mostly looking for proficiency in C, an understanding of data structures, and a structured approach to problem solving.

Our interview process is tough, but that also means that you will get to work with bright and skilled people, solving difficult problems.

No Sharding!

Database sharding is expensive and risky. It introduces significant opportunity cost and risk by requiring additional application code and operational complexity.

Clustrix diminishes the cost and complexity of sharding. Clustrix has created a distributed database that grows online through clustering.
