Management Team

Robin Purohit

President / CEO

Robin has held senior executive positions at VERITAS, Mercury, and most recently, at HP's three-billion-dollar portfolio of IT Management, Information Management, and Application Security products as VP/General Manager. Under Robin’s leadership, these companies have seen rapid growth in several new product categories, including clustering, IT automation, and storage networking. Robin has led more than 20 acquisitions and three successful exits of VERITAS to Symantec (2005), Mercury to HP (2007), and CANSTAR Communications to HP (1994).

Robin holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering/Physics from the University of Waterloo.

Paul Mikesell

Co-Founder / Vice President of Strategy and Technology

Prior to starting Clustrix, Paul was the founder and director of engineering at Isilon Systems, the proven leader in scale-out NAS storage solutions. Paul designed, architected, and developed all of Isilon’s products while building the engineering team to 50 people, the company to 200 people, and revenue to $100M. After a successful IPO in 2006 Isilon was acquired by EMC in 2010 for $2.25B.

Before Isilon, Paul was the development manager for all of RealNetworks infrastructure products, including RealServer, RealProxy/Cache, and the distributed Live Real Streaming system.

Paul earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of Washington.

Sergei Tsarev

Co-Founder / Director of Engineering

Sergei led the Internet Operations Systems Infrastructure team at AOL, designing large-scale monitoring and configuration management systems. Sergei's accomplishments include developing the Simple Time-series Database (STDB), a high performance data storage engine for operational monitoring metrics. STDB uses commodity hardware to linearly scale to hundreds of thousands of writes per second. It has become the standard storage engine for network and host monitoring data for all of AOL, replacing traditional high-end database infrastructure.

Sergei earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from University of Maryland, College Park.

Aaron Passey

Chief Technology Officer

Before joining Clustrix, Aaron was the chief architect for Isilon Systems. Starting in the early years of Isilon, he architected the industry-changing OneFS distributed file system from scratch, and was named as an inventor on 26 patents. He was responsible for the technical direction of the product that took Isilon to over $115M annual revenue. As chief architect, he maintained close ties with engineering, sales, marketing, customers, and vendors in order to maintain the rapid pace of innovation critical to Isilon’s success.

Prior to Isilon, Aaron designed code for the I/O subsystem of Cray super computers.

Aaron earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the California Institute of Technology.

Sonja Erickson

Vice President of Customer Operations

Sonja has over 20 years of experience in Operations and Technology. She has built scalable, sustainable infrastructures and teams across a variety of business platforms.

Before Clustrix, she was the COO at Radar Networks, building Twine.com, the first mainstream semantic web application. Prior to Radar, she was Vice President of Technical Operations and Engineering at Kodak Gallery (formerly Ofoto), overseeing all IT infrastructure and technology for the award winning online digital photo service. Under Sonja’s leadership, The Gallery successfully grew to 40 million members and more than 2 billion stored images. Sonja also served as Director of Hosting Services at Burst.com and held management and technical positions at Andromedia, Forté Software, Illustra and Ingres.

Sonja brings her extensive experience being the customer of IT services, hardware and software companies to her position at Clustrix, where she advocates for and supports the Clustrix customer base.

Mark Sarbiewski

Chief Marketing Officer

Before joining Clustrix, Mark was Vice President of Product Marketing at HP Software. Mark was responsible for the design and implementation of all HP’s Product Marketing and Go-to-Market activities for the Applications area within the HP Software portfolio. Mark became part of HP Software through HP’s acquisition of Mercury in 2006.

Prior to joining Mercury and HP Software, Mark was Vice President of Marketing for InterTrust Technologies Corporation, where he led all key Marketing activities. Before InterTrust, Mark was a principal consultant for five years with Pittiglio, Rabin, Todd & McGrath, the leading management consultant firm for technology companies. While there, he worked on more than a dozen major consulting engagements, ranging from strategy development to process reengineering. Before his stint as a consultant, Mark spent four years with IBM where he was an application software engineer.

Mark holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and Mathematics from University of California, Davis and earned his MBA from University of Virginia’s Darden Graduate School of Business.

George Reitz

Vice President of Sales

George joins Clustrix, Inc. as the Vice-President of Sales where he is responsible for worldwide sales and customer relations. With nearly 20 years in the industry, George brings in-depth knowledge of the market, the applications, and the technical requirements of sophisticated customers. Coupling his business skills with extensive sales leadership, George has directly transacted over $1B in commerce through his sales teams and execution plans.

Previously, George had spent 7 years with Rackable Systems (now SGI) in sales leadership roles, delivering dramatic results. Most recently as Vice-President of Internet and Cloud Computing , he was responsible for significant bookings growth from 2002-2009, and also achieving greater than 100% year-over-year growth during many years . Joining as the 23 rd employee of a $10M/year company, George was a key change agent, driving the company to a peak of IPO, revenues of $360M, and acquisition of SGI.

Prior experience includes various roles as executive advisor, founder, and employee to several top emerging companies including: NonStopNet, Compaq, Frontline Network Consulting, and ASA Computers. Primary markets and responsibilities included both direct and indirect sales in the Internet & Cloud, Oil & Gas, Media & Entertainment, Biotech, Financial Services, EDA, and Enterprise.

Scott Sullivan

Vice President of Operations

Scott brings over 20 years of leadership experience to Clustrix where he is responsible for Manufacturing, Hardware Engineering, Software Quality Assurance, Human Resources, and day-to-day operations. His deep technical background mixed with decades of experience developing staff, processes, and hiring have enabled him to build highly functional, independent teams across a diverse range of functional departments.

Most recently at Infospace, he drove performance testing and service expansion for AT&T and Verizon’s mobile web portals, serving all Internet traffic to their subscribers. Previously, Scott oversaw Quality Assurance, Data Center Operations, and Tools Development at Isilon Systems helping grow revenue from zero to over $100MM.

Earlier roles at Getty Images, Microsoft, and Nintendo contributed to Scott's experience building high quality products, services and teams.

No Sharding!
