Primary SQL Database Options
Amazon RDS provides a single instance MySQL, Oracle, or MS SQL Server. However, once you’ve used all the cores in your instance, you hit a limit, with no workarounds. But when you have large datasets 100GB+ and you need to serve more queries than a single machine can support, Clustrix is available on the AWS Marketplace.

Power, Performance, and Scale
Clustrix allows you to scale transactions and run real-time analytics on the same database. It delivers nearly linear transactional performance at virtually any data set size and concurrency and uses massively parallel query processing (MPP) so you can run fast real-time analytics on your primary database for operational intelligence. Self Healing / High Availability

Clustrix has some of the most competitive pricing in the industry. We started with 1x the instance cost on AWS East (since this was the least expensive). We then discounted it 50% initially, e.g. you pay AWS $0.24 per hour for m1.large and would pay Clustrix $0.12/hr. See full pricing.
